The Edinburgh Fringe is almost upon us and to get prepared for another Scottish summer Read About Stuff is running a ‘Five From The Fringe’ interview series, where creative teams answer five questions about their upcoming Festival shows.

In this interview, I chat to Meg Millane about their new show Bride to Be.

Can you tell me a little about your show and what audiences can expect?

Bride To Be is a character comedy about the cultural baggage of I do. Audiences can expect high energy dance numbers, laugh out loud jokes and characters that are all too familiar. Whether you have ever been a bride, a maid of honor or simply attended a wedding as a guest, you will have the MOST FUN at this epic one woman show!

What drew you to this specific story, and why does it belong at the Edinburgh Fringe?

While this story is very personal, I am talking about my own relationship and wedding experience, I think it is super relatable subject material. If you have ever been to a wedding, this show is for you! If you are a woman and have been told what to do with your life, you will get this show. This show breaks normal stand-up structure and incorporates a whole mess of hilarity to keep the audience engaged…see what I did there ;)

What has been the biggest challenge in bringing this production to life?

As a solo performer you end up taking on a lot of extra roles….such as producer! It can be a lot juggling creative work with logistical work while also having a life. And truthfully if anyone would like to step into the producer role for me, I wouldn’t be opposed….www.megmillane.com.

How does the design of your show (set, sound, or lighting) impact the presentation of your story?

Costuming plays a HUGE part in the show. I am constantly putting on wigs and taking off jackets. I was truthfully inspired by Operation Mincemeat  and loved how they used subtle accessories to embody different characters.

If you could sum up the show in one word or phrase, what would it be and why?

Fun and relatable for all! Why? because it truly is just a hilarious high energy story about wedding culture and society as a whole.

Bride to Be runs at Thistle Theatre at Greenside @ Riddles Court (Venue 16) from August 7th – 15th. Tickets can be purchased here: https://www.edfringe.com/tickets/whats-on/bride-to-be
